Winter Genetics is dedicated to producing high-quality Hereford bulls from a well-balanced, genetically superior herd.
Our stud herd has been developed over 35 years with a clear focus on producing quality commercial cattle.
While Winter Genetics has only been offering bulls commercially since 2023, our Hereford breeding program has been carefully developed across generations of practical Queensland beef production. The cattle we breed today are the result of decades of selection for structural soundness, fertility, temperament and the ability to perform in commercial conditions.
Our focus is straightforward: to produce reliable, high-performing Hereford bulls that add measurable value in commercial herds—through both marketable progeny and productive replacement females.
We continue to invest heavily in herd improvement, with a strong emphasis on lifting genetic performance while maintaining the structure, docility and functionality required for longevity in the paddock.

Winter Genetics began as Winter Herefords at Kaimanna in Queensland’s Arcadia Valley in 1992, established by Carl and Corinne Winter to breed quality registered Hereford bulls for the family’s expanding commercial beef operation.
From the beginning, the breeding objective was clear: to produce structurally sound, fertile Hereford bullse capable of delivering practical commercial results.
For more than 35 years the Winter family has selected Hereford cattle with a strong focus on fertility, structural integrity, growth and carcass performance.
The stud originally supplied bulls for family breeding operations in the Arcadia Valley, a forestry property in the Injune district and country at Cecil Plains. Across these businesses the commercial herd evolved through a range of production systems including grass-fed bullocks, feedlotting and feeder cattle production.
In meeting the requirements of all those systems, the stud’s focus remained the same—breeding bulls whose progeny met target markets efficiently and consistently within the first two years of life.
That long commercially focused background continues to shape Winter Genetics today.
Our cattle have been bred and selected in Queensland conditions for generations and are well adapted to extensive grazing environments. The Hereford breed’s ability to handle changing pasture conditions while maintaining fertility and doing ability has long made them ideal for a wide range of climate and country types. Winter Genetics Bulls are bred to maximise these Hereford advantages.
The stud moved to Westbank, Athol in 2009 and continued supplying bulls within family operations.
In 2022 Fleur Winter and Steven Sloss took over management of Winter Genetics and began expanding herd numbers and continuing the next stage of genetic improvement through carefully selected sires and the introduction of some new female lines.
The first Winter Genetics bulls were offered for commercial sale in 2023.
While Winter Genetics is relatively new to the commercial sale ring, the breeding program behind it is built on decades of practical Queensland experience and proven selection for the traits that matter most in commercial herds.
That history gives us strong confidence in where the stud is heading—and in the cattle we are breeding for our clients today.
