Our Bulls
Our bulls deliver genetic merit, fertility and structural soundness to produce quality market cattle and contribute to the long-term strength and efficiency of your breeding herd.
BRED FOR COMMERCIAL PERFORMANCE
Winter Genetics bulls are bred to perform where it matters—in commercial breeding herds.
Our breeding program is designed to produce bulls that contribute in two critical ways: by remaining structurally sound and fertile throughout their working life, and by delivering measurable genetic improvement in the next generation. . Fertility underpins herd efficiency, while quality market cattle create flexibility in marketing and maintain strong buyer demand.
Every selection decision in our herd is made with the commercial producer in mind.
We focus on delivering bulls that:
- Produce quality turn-off cattle with the growth and carcass performance to meet target specifications
- Breed fertile, productive replacement females
- Remain structurally sound and durable throughout their working life
- Handle well with reliable temperament and docility
- Offer balanced, commercially relevant EBV profiles
GENETICS WITH PURPOSE
A bull contributes to a herd in two important ways.
Firstly by being fertile and structurally sound to maximise herd calving rates across his breeding life.
Second, he must deliver measurable genetic improvement through his calves.
That improvement extends well beyond one calf drop. A well-bred bull can influence the direction of a commercial herd for many years through both sale progeny and retained females.
This long-term impact is why we place strong emphasis on genetic selection.
We use Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) as an objective tool to guide selection and continually improve the genetic value of our stud females.
This allows us to identify and retain cattle with superior performance across the traits that matter most to profitability—fertility, growth, carcass quality and replacement female performance.
For us, genetic improvement must always be balanced with function.
Genetic superiority is a major focus of our breeding program, but never at the expense of structure, temperament or longevity. We believe the most valuable bulls are those that combine strong performance data with practical paddock functionality.
We strive to continually lift the genetic performance of our herd while maintaining the structural integrity and doing ability commercial producers rely on.
Our aim is simple: to offer a consistent line of fertile, structurally sound, docile bulls with strong genetic merit—giving buyers confidence that whichever bull best suits their operation it will deliver value both now and into future generations.
RAISED TO WORK
Our bulls are prepared for commercial work from the day they are born.
Our cow herd runs on grass country at Athol and Goondiwindi, with seasonal supplementation when required. Calves are handled regularly and weaned according to the season, generally between eight and ten months.
Young bulls are then moved to Wellcamp and raised on improved pastures, winter oats and a balanced ration designed to keep them on a steady growing plane of nutrition. Our focus is to present bulls in genuine working condition—fit, fertile and ready to join, without being overdone.
All sale bulls undergo:
- Veterinary Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluation (VBBSE)
- Scrotal assessment
- Structural and mobility assessment
- Crush-side semen testing
- Laboratory sperm morphology analysis
- Feet, leg and eye set assessment
Certificates are available on sale day.
A comprehensive herd health and vaccination program is maintained across the herd, and all sale bulls are offered fully prepared and ready to go straight to work.
